What is Recovery Canvas?

Updated: Mar 10, 2024

Hello and welcome!

We are so glad you have come across this project in this little corner of the world. While you’re here, please take a look around. We are happy to share our story with you, including the triumphs and struggles we have had along the way.

We are a group of adolescents who aim to spread awareness about general mental health through media channels, research, fundraising and personal experience. After some of our own team members struggled with mental health, we saw how negative and deeply rooted mental illnesses are in the lives of so many. They drown you in a sea of doubt and try to pull every piece of you apart in its wicked storm. They replace the breadth of love and community with the most isolating, lonely and hateful feelings. They make you feel like you have lost yourself in a battle that can stretch for months, years or even decades. They paralyze you and strip you of your identity. If you are struggling with well-being or a mental illness, we want you to know you are heard and courageous. You’re here every day, fighting and surviving. That’s incredible.

To explain more about our organization, every person on our team has experienced struggles, including eating disorders, abuse, and depression. However, we have all come out stronger with love and support. In light of this, we hope to spread the same care that has helped us through difficult times in this movement.

You can check out the members of the team individually, but there is one thing that binds us all together - the way we share our stories. We enjoy sharing our passion and care through the arts or other creative ventures, and Recovery Canvas is an outlet to communicate in our own unique ways, free of any barriers or expectations. Our team is dedicated to reaching as many people as possible through freedom of expression.

More specifically, Recovery Canvas’ creativity symbol is a canvas, which represents a fresh place to paint or reconstruct a new path to mental illness recovery and finding beauty in times of darkness. We want to tell you, whoever you are, that whatever you are going through will help you grow. Your struggles, even if they feel impossible to overcome, will become a core part of your identity. They will help you recognize how resilient you are. We encourage you to share your story and learnings on our platforms and sincerely hope this community will make a difference. Feel free to explore, reach out for a listening ear, or give us feedback. We look forward to connecting with you.

Sincerely,

The Recovery Canvas Team
